Katie Woodard has been dancing since the age of 7 and has trained extensively in jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, technique, and hip hop. At age 11, her family moved to Plano where she began training under Christy Wolverton, owner and artistic director of Dance Industry. She was a member of Dance Industry’s top performing company for five years and helped the group win several regional and national awards. Individually, Katie received several convention scholarships from West Coast Dance Explosion, Tremaine, and New York City Dance Alliance. In 2004, she was one of six female finalists at Tremaine Nationals in Orlando, Florida for the title of Senior Dancer of the Year. At the national competition she was recognized for her talents and awarded the George J. Lather, Jr. Memorial Scholarship by the Tremaine faculty. Only two dancers in the national convention received this honor. Katie has also received the senior outstanding dancer award at MA Dance competition and performed with Destiny’s Child at the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving half time show that same year as well. In 2005, she was chosen for the title of Miss Starpower at the Dallas regional competition. Katie has traveled to several cities throughout the US after being selected as an assistant for the Tremaine conventions and still enjoys going to conventions and taking classes at the studio. More recently she toured as a dancer for C&C Production’s Body Art Ball, which toured all over the United States and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Dallas in literary studies. Katie knows first hand what it is like to be a young dancer growing up with big dreams and looks forward to putting her time and energy into making her student's dreams come true just as hers did.
